Orbaal is a challenging land inhabited by resilient people, located along the stormy northern coast of Hârn. Once a proud kingdom, it now exists as a fragmented region composed of jarls, raiders, and cautious clans, united more by tradition than by political cohesion. The region's culture has been shaped by the cold seas and rugged terrain, resulting in a community of sailors, warriors, and survivors who prioritize strength and honor over comfort. Longships regularly traverse its waters, and its halls resonate with traditional songs and past grudges.
The Ivinian forces comprise approximately 8,000 personnel who control nearly all of the kingdom’s fortresses. They govern the 65,000 Jarin, who constitute the majority of the rural population. A significant rebellion occurred less than 20 years ago, and ongoing tension persists between the two cultures, supported by an active yet disorganized Jarin resistance movement. The region is also inhabited by two semi-nomadic human nations, the Anoa and the Ymodi, both of whom have Jarin ancestry. These tribes have historically resisted both the previous Jarin rulers and the current Ivinian occupation, often challenging the authority of occupying forces.
The natural landscape primarily consists of needleleaf and mixed forests. The northern two-thirds of the area is dominated by the rugged Jahl Mountains, while the southern third features the heavily forested alluvial valley of the Anoth. The coastline is rocky and characterized by numerous fjords and bays. The Jahl Mountains are home to several tribes of gargun and other dangerous creatures, including yelgri, ivashu, and even dragons. As such, travel through this region can be highly hazardous.
