Player Characters

The main function of this campaign is a plot-driven story line with characters living in a world where reactions to being a mutant vary from mildly pleasant to extremely aggressive.  At the outset of the campaign, each player will start with one mutant character, hailing from the Xavier's School for Gifted Children. All players will choose a background which lends the PCs to being at an age between the New Mutants and the X-Men; powerful, but not overwhelmingly so. Although aliens have been known to appear on the New Mutants and X-Men rosters, human mutants are highly recommended for this campaign. Unlike other level-based campaigns, the PCs will generate their characters and will make minimal changes due to time constraints.

Chingon [Derek]

Human male mutant with superhuman strength, stamina, and durability,

Carlos Tejada lived in the Rio Grande Valley most of his life, one of seven children from Brazilian parents who crossed the United States border illegally. Tejada grew up in Mercedes, Texas, where his life was marked by adversity from an early age. As the youngest sibling in a struggling household, his parents worked tirelessly to provide for the family. Despite their efforts, Tejada often felt invisible, overshadowed by his older siblings who excelled in school or sports. Tejada himself was an introverted and quiet child, finding solace in comic books and art, rather than the rough-and-tumble life of his neighborhood. However, his life would change dramatically when he discovered he was different in a way no one could have imagined. At the age of 14, Tejada’s mutant powers manifested in a violent and painful way. One morning, while getting ready for school, his body suddenly began to transform. His size grew exponentially, his bones and muscles expanding until he resembled a hulking mass of stone. His face became rugged and intimidating, turning him into something shocking to anyone who saw him. His parents and siblings were horrified by the sudden change, and Sidney himself was overwhelmed by panic and confusion. Frightened by his new appearance and the senses he couldn’t control, Tejada fled from home, believing he had become a freak, and he wandered the rural areas of the Rio Grande Valley, hiding from the public, ashamed of what he had turned into. Despite his despair, Tejada soon realized that his transformation had given him incredible strength and durability. His sense became more acute, and his powerful new form made him a force to be reckoned with. However, this did little to soothe his pain, as Tejada still longed for acceptance and to feel normal, finding that at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning when recruited to join by his new role model, Wolverine.

Forq [Robert]

Human male mutant with sound manipulation and sound generation

Chris Rainey grew up in a poor neighborhood, facing the daily struggles of poverty, neglect, and instability. Raised in a broken household, he often felt like an outsider in his own life. With an absent father and a mother who was overwhelmed by life’s hardships, Rainey learned to fend for himself from a young age. School was a difficult environment for her, as he struggled with his grades and often found himself at odds with both teachers and classmates. Rainey’s rebellious streak made him a loner, and he drifted aimlessly, unsure of his future or place in the world. At the age of 14, Rainey’s life changed drastically he won tickets from a radio giveaway to a Rage Against the Machine concert. Disregarding his mother’s warnings not to go, Rainey skipped school to attend the concert with his girlfriend. During the show, the immense amount of sound and energy triggered Rainey’s mutant powers, which manifested during an intimate moment with his girlfriend, with a sound emanation so great, she was permanently deafened. Panicking, Rainey fled his home, fearing that his mother and others would reject him as a freak or monster. Alone and terrified, Rainey roamed the streets, unsure of what was happening to his body. It wasn’t long before Rainey’s powers attracted the attention of anti-mutant extremists, who targeted his for his strange abilities. Almost captured by fanatics and later local law-enforcement, Rainey’s fate seemed sealed until the X-Men, led by Cyclops and Storm, rescued him from his situation. They brought him back to the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, offering him a haven and an opportunity to understand his powers. However, under the mentorship of Charles Xavier, Rainey began to see that his powers were just as valuable as any other mutant’s.

Ms. Majesty [Fritz]

Human female mutant with the power cosmic control

Ms. Majesty, a shimmering yet tragic figure in the world of mutants, has a story that reflects both the struggle for acceptance and the pain of transformation. Born as Molly Bukoslav, she grew up in a suburban environment, where she led a relatively normal childhood, raised by a single mother. Her early years were marked by a sense of longing to fit in, but not in any extraordinary way, just the usual insecurities of adolescence. However, Bukoslav’s life took a drastic turn when her mutant abilities began to manifest during her teenage years. Unlike other mutants, who could at least blend in when their powers weren’t active, Bukoslav’s mutation transformed her physically in a way that was hard to hide as her skin became silvery, drawing some fascination, but in the end her mutation drew stares, whispers, and eventually outright cruelty. The once shy but happy girl now found herself ostracized, alienated from both his peers and family. Her mother, unable to accept the drastic change in her daughter, became distant. During one contentious evening at home, Molly’s mother admitted to having a one-night stand with the Silver Surfer as he visited the Earth. Like many mutants, Bukoslav found herself lost, unsure of her place in the world. Her mutation made her feel like an outsider, and she internalized the belief that she would never be accepted. However, her story took a significant turn when she was discovered by Professor Charles Xavier. Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters promised a haven for mutants like Bukoslav, and though hesitant at first, Bukoslav eventually joined the school and became part of the mutant community. Surrounded by mutants like herself, her shyness melted, and the persona of Ms. Majesty emerged, as she learned to master her powers, while her desire to someday meet her father became stronger.

Reboot [Daniel]

Human male mutant with technokinetic transmutation

Arik Angel knows little of his past. As a baby, he was left at an Austin orphanage without any information. Growing up and living in different foster homes, Angel was a brilliant yet quiet child, always more comfortable around books and machines than people, but despite his natural intelligence, Angel struggled to find his place. To complicate matters, foster families were quick to release him when household electronics would stop functioning properly or were found to have been “modified” for a different purpose. His last family, George and Meredith Bantle, recognized that Angel might be a meta-human, and confined him to his room out of concerns for Angel’s and their safety. Connecting more with electronics than people and confined to his electronic-free room, Angel learned to master his powers at an early age, escaping his caretakers and living out on his own. He fell into the wrong crowd and became a person of interest for S.H.I.E.L.D. after several crimes, leading to his capture. Following up on his background, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents learned Angel’s parents were Dr. Caroline Stewart and Dr. Howard Stewart, pioneers in genetic engineering and nanotechnology. Their groundbreaking research had the potential to cure diseases and enhance human abilities. Both drowned when their car mysteriously crashed into Lake Travis. Angel suspected his mutant abilities stemmed from his parents testing some of their finding upon his mother, as before her death, he was diagnosed with ALS. Given a choice of prison or Xavier's School for Gifted Children, the decision was easy, and with the Bantle family used as character witnesses, Angel was given the chance to avoid prison and find a new home elsewhere. He still wants his freedom and looks to earn enough goodwill that Xavier will let him go one day.
