Rules and Redundancy for
Ghost Rock Reckoning
House Rules
Applying Bennies
REROLL A TRAIT: Reroll any Trait check, keeping the best total rolled. The only exception is a Critical Failure roll, which ends the attempt and must be accepted.
RECOVER FROM SHAKEN: This is instant and may be done at any time, even interrupting another’s actions if desired.
SOAK ROLLS: Bennies can be used to prevent Wounds.
DRAW A NEW ACTION CARD: When the game is in rounds, a character can spend a Benny to get a new Action Card. This occurs after all cards are dealt and any Edges or Hindrances that affect card draws are resolved.
REROLL DAMAGE: Bennies can be used to reroll damage. Include any additional dice for a raise on the attack roll.
REGAIN POWER POINTS: A character with an Arcane Background can spend a Benny to regain 5 Power Points.
INFLUENCE THE STORY: This one is entirely up to the Game Master, who may allow your character to spend a Benny to find an additional clue if you’re stuck, come up with some mundane but needed item, or push a nonplayer character into being a bit more agreeable.
Applying BR&WL tokens
LIMIT 5: No single player may spend more than 5 BR&WL tokens in one game session.
TRADE FOR 3 BENNIES: At any time, the player receives 3 additional Bennies only for use on their character.
AUTOMATIC SOAK ROLL SUCCESS: Regardless of penalties, the character soaks up to 3 wounds.
REMOVE PERMANENT INJURY: Any permanent injuries can be removed when used.
AUTOMATIC "4" ON ANY ROLL: Regardless of penalties, any single roll results in an automatic "4".
ROLL WITH WILD DICE ADVANTAGE: The player can roll an additional Wild Dice when making a single roll, taking the better of the two dice. Either dice can Ace as normal.
CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT: Cash in 5 BR&WL tokens for one Level Advance.
Applying "Owl of Conviction" tokens
ROLL WITH BONUS DICE: The player can add another d6 on ALL Trait rolls and damage roll until the beginning of their next turn. At the beginning of their next turn, a player can spend a Bennie to maintain this bonus until the start of their next turn. They can keep doing this every turn until they choose to stop or run out of Bennies.
Power Points
Heroes recover five spent Power Points every hour.
Readying Weapons
Characters may “ready” up to two items per turn as a free action. Readying means drawing, holstering, or otherwise moving an item into or out of a familiar and easy to reach location.
Each additional item readied is an action, as is readying an item from a difficult location such as an ankle holster, off the floor after being disarmed, or other extenuating circumstances.
Soaking Wounds
If the character Soaks all the Wounds, they are also no longer Shaken.
The Sioux Nations
When using mass-produced technology within the borders of the Sioux Nations, the PC/NPC must roll a d4 (with applicable Wild Die) vs. a Marshall’s progressive dice roll for any device used. The Marshall’s die progresses from d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. If the Marshall’s roll is greater than the PC/NPC roll, the item no longer functions, suffering some sort of mishap. This effect stays consistent whether the device passes into and out of the Sioux Nations borders.
SWADE 5.0 Savage Worlds Adventure Edition Core Rules Update
Powers
Entangle: Increase the Hardness in the base effect from 5 to 8. TOUGH Power Modifier replaces STRONG--> TOUGH (+1): The entangling material is particularly resilient. Increase its Hardness to 10.
ENTANGLED status update: The victim can’t move and is Vulnerable as long as he remains Entangled.
Protection: Creates a field of energy or armor around a character, giving him 2 points of Armor. With a raise, the bonus is applied to Toughness instead.
Shape Change: This power allows the caster to take the form of other living creatures. She can only turn into the base form of such beings, not elite or alternative versions (so an orc is allowed but an orc chieftain is not). With a raise, the caster can increase the creature’s Strength and Vigor by one die type each. The size of the new form is limited by the caster’s Rank: Held and worn items are assumed into the new form and reappear when the power ends. While transformed, the character retains his Edges and Hindrances, and his Smarts, Spirit, and their linked skills. He gains the creature’s Agility, Strength, Vigor, and linked skills, as well as any powers common to that creature (fire breathing for dragons, flight for pegasi, etc). The caster does not gain a target’s Power Points if it has them—he retains his own. His ability to use devices and communicate is limited to those of his form—goblins can speak and therefore cast spells but bears and tigers cannot. The caster may maintain powers cast before the shape change regardless of form.
WOUND EFFECTS: The caster cannot benefit from a creature’s additional Wounds or Wound reduction abilities like Resilient, Very Resilient, or Unstoppable, or extra Wounds from Large or Huge Scale creatures.
Terminology
PCNPC Mode: When a player is unavailable to play his/her character, the GM must step in to ensure aspects can be successful.
Throw the Houlihan: The Houlihan is a roping throw can be used in a variety of situations, from the ground or the saddle. It’s most often used when roping horses in a corral. Because the Houlihan's loop can be placed in a great range of positions—from vertical to horizontal—from a relatively far distance, it’s ideal for picking out a horse’s head from among several that are close together. For right-handed ropers, use this catch when the animal you’re angling for is traveling in front of you from left to right.
